AI video for Reels: format, file and posting

4 min read

For an AI video to look right on Reels and TikTok, shoot it vertical (9:16), with the person large in the frame, and post the original file. Instagram accepts reels from 1.91:1 to 9:16, with at least 30 frames per second and 720 pixels, according to Instagram's Help Center. The rest is picking the length and saving the file without losing quality.

This page prepares the file. To choose the tool, see AI for Reels and TikTok. Duble AI is this site's product.

Shoot with the final format in mind

With a tool that replaces the person in footage, the finished format comes from the footage. Duble AI has no aspect-ratio editor: the result follows the framing of what you uploaded. So the decision happens when you shoot.

  • Upright, 9:16. The format that fills the screen on Reels and TikTok.
  • The person large in frame. Whoever is replaced should fill a good part of the picture, face visible. A small face in the background is where AI slips most, as explained in what to check when the face changes.
  • Room at the top and bottom. Reels and TikTok cover part of the screen with the name, caption and buttons. Keep heads and hands away from the edges.
  • Even light and a steady phone. Phone propped up, no digital zoom, no shake.

Length: what Reels accepts and what Duble AI accepts

Instagram takes up to 20 minutes but says reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to people who do not follow you. For trends, the norm is far shorter.

On Duble AI, your own clip can run 3 to 30 seconds, as MP4 or MOV, up to 80 MB. Trim it on your phone before uploading, sound included. The price is per second, so a shorter clip also costs less: 3 credits a second at Standard and 4 at High.

Resolution: Standard or High

On Duble AI, Standard comes out at 720p, Instagram's minimum for reels. High comes out in Full HD, and the app labels it Best for Instagram. To test an idea, Standard is enough. For the video that goes on the profile, High is sharper.

Upscaling a finished video does not bring back detail that was never recorded. If the original footage is low quality, the finished video will be too.

Save and post from your phone

  1. When the video is ready, tap Download video. The file lands on your phone without a watermark, with the recording's sound.
  2. Watch it once with sound before posting.
  3. If you want captions, on-screen text or a different cut, use a video editor such as CapCut. Duble AI adds no captions or music.
  4. On Instagram, turn on Upload at highest quality under Profile, Menu, Media quality, as the Help Center describes. Uploads may take longer.
  5. Post the downloaded file. A screen recording of the video loses quality.
  6. Label the content as AI-made where the platform asks. See how to label AI content and the AI label on an Instagram profile.

The whole phone workflow, from the influencer to the posted video, is in how to make an AI influencer on your phone.

Common format mistakes

  • Shooting landscape for a reel. The finished video comes out landscape, with bars or cropped by the platform.
  • Uploading a screen recording. Compression shows twice on the face.
  • A clip that is too long. Beyond passing Duble AI's 30-second limit, it costs more and is harder to watch to the end.
  • Text against the edge. It disappears behind the app's buttons.

To start with a trend that is already upright, create your AI influencer and pick one from the library.

Frequently asked questions

What is the right video format for Reels?
Instagram's Help Center says a reel can have an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 9:16, with at least 30 frames per second and 720 pixels of resolution. To fill a phone screen, shoot upright at 9:16. Meta recommends MP4 at 1080p for Facebook Reels.
How long can a Reel be?
According to Instagram's Help Center, a reel can run up to 20 minutes. The same page says reels over 3 minutes will not be recommended to new audiences. For trends, short clips are still the usual format.
Does Duble AI crop or change the aspect ratio?
Duble AI has no aspect-ratio editor. The finished video follows the framing of the footage you uploaded, so shoot upright if it is going to Reels or TikTok. To change the crop afterwards, use a video editor on your phone before posting.
Which quality should I pick on Duble AI for Instagram?
The app marks High, in Full HD, as best for Instagram. It uses 4 credits a second, against 3 for Standard, which comes out at 720p, the minimum Instagram accepts for reels. To test an idea, Standard is enough.
Why did my reel lose quality after posting?
Instagram compresses videos on upload. Its Help Center describes an Upload at highest quality setting under Profile, Menu, Media quality, which can make uploads slower. Post the original downloaded file, not a screen recording.
