How to put a cartoon character into a real video with AI

4 min read

Putting a cartoon character into a real video with AI requires a visual reference and authorized footage for person replacement. In Duble AI, the drawing becomes a human live-action interpretation; this workflow does not promise to preserve a 2D drawing style or generate a complete animation from the image.

Intended result Workflow to look for Limit to check

What does the Vector case establish?

Brazilian outlet O Tempo reported on October 8, 2026 that creators including Morôni Duarte, based on Vector from Despicable Me, used AI to appear in videos of well-known people. It did not identify the tool used for that case.

Canaltech covered person-replacement memes on October 23, 2026. That coverage provides context for the format, without establishing a particular workflow for the Vector account. The separate Vector article covers that case; this guide focuses on your own drawing.

This workflow uses an original identity and your own or licensed recording. It does not teach celebrity impersonation or reuse of their footage. Making your reference recording also lets you choose framing before generation instead of relying on a clip you cannot control.

Will the character still look like a cartoon?

Duble AI, the product published by this site, interprets a drawing reference as an adult human in live action. Hair, clothing and colors help carry the idea into a human appearance. A figure with huge eyes or fantastical anatomy should therefore not be sold as an exact visual reproduction in the output.

If a client needs the original 2D mascot with its drawing style preserved, settle that requirement before choosing a tool. Compositing a cutout, animating a drawing and generating a person replacement are different services. See text-to-video versus person replacement for the distinction.

How do I prepare an original drawing for video?

Approve the human interpretation before producing movement. Keep the original image and the usage agreement if someone else drew it. Decide which features need to remain recognizable, such as clothing or hair, and which requirements depend on preserving the drawn style itself.

  1. Create your double with your own or licensed image. Make a double from images accepts the reference.
  2. Review the human interpretation. Resolve any unsuitable appearance before making a video.
  3. Prepare authorized footage from 3 to 30 seconds.
  4. Choose Make video and assign the double to the participant being replaced.
  5. Review quality and cost before generating. New videos use Duble Identical in Standard or High quality, displayed as Full HD.
  6. Watch the entire result, checking the face, hands and occluded moments.

The video follows the reference action and keeps its original sound. Duble AI does not create a new voice for the character. Record any required speech in authorized source footage; person replacement does not provide voice dubbing. The person replacement guide explains that workflow.

What does the video cost?

A 10-second Standard video uses 30 credits; High uses 40. The first-purchase offer includes a video and 10 photos for $6.99. There is no free video. Approve the reference before spending on movement and budget for completed attempts that may need replacing.

Are familiar cartoon characters free to use?

Known cartoon characters have copyright protection; an AI adaptation grants no license. Brazil's copyright law, Articles 7 and 29, protects drawings and governs adaptations. A tool's cast is not proof of permission from the rights holder. Parody exceptions have limits and do not provide blanket advertising permission.

For people shown in footage, Brazilian considerations include Civil Code Article 20 and personal-data processing under the LGPD. Advertising also involves CONAR guidance; electoral deepfakes have specific rules in TSE Resolution 23.610, Article 9-C.

For Portugal, consult Civil Code Article 79. For the EU, review the transparency provisions in AI Act Article 50 as applicable. Other countries have their own rules. These references are not legal clearance for a campaign. Review the drawing, footage and music separately; the rights guide explains the broader questions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put my original cartoon character into recorded footage?
You can use your drawing as a reference with authorized footage in a compatible workflow. In Duble AI, a drawing becomes a human live-action interpretation before entering the video. That workflow does not promise to preserve the original drawing style or create a 2D animation.
How is replacing a face different from replacing the whole person?
Face replacement focuses on the face of the filmed participant. Person replacement uses another identity for their appearance while following the reference movement. The outcome depends on the tool and scene. It does not mean every feature of the cartoon reference will survive the adaptation.
Can I use Vector or another familiar cartoon character in an ad?
Familiar cartoon characters have copyright protection and may involve trademarks. Appearing in a meme or a tool's cast does not establish an advertising license. Check the owner's authorization for your intended use, as well as rights to the source footage, music and people shown.
Does Duble AI make a complete animation from my drawing?
No. It uses existing footage and a reference image for the double. Drawings become human live-action interpretations in this workflow. If you need the drawn style preserved or a scene and action created from scratch, choose an animation tool that explicitly documents those capabilities.
Do I need to label the video as AI on Instagram or TikTok?
Check the platform's requirements and apply the label required for your content. An AI label does not replace likeness permissions or copyright clearance. For a campaign, also record the advertising disclosure and who is responsible for approving the material and obtaining the required licenses.
